Some dates are far more than just numbers; they hold memories, choices, and paths shaped by many hands. In 2026, ANPAD celebrates 50 years of history. This newsletter officially inaugurates a celebration that is, above all, collective—the story of an association born from the convergence of programs, people, and ideas. Since its founding, ANPAD has remained a central pillar of graduate education in administration, accounting, and related fields in Brazil.
Celebrating five decades of ANPAD means recognizing that nothing built over this time happened by chance. ANPAD was founded in 1976 through the joint initiative of the ten graduate programs then existing in the country. At that time, Brazil was experiencing a period of expansion and consolidation in academic research, with a growing need to strengthen institutions, promote quality standards, and create legitimate spaces for scientific exchange. From the outset, the creation of the organization represented a mature and strategic response: to unite efforts to structure a strong, integrated academic community capable of engaging with society and the institutions responsible for education and scientific and technological development.
Since then, ANPAD’s trajectory has been rooted in a fundamental principle: integration. This includes collaboration among member programs, research groups, various theoretical and methodological approaches, and different generations of students who pass through classrooms, events, scientific committees, and decision-making spaces. Over time, ANPAD has evolved into one of the leading hubs for interaction among associated stricto sensu programs, the field’s scientific output, and the international academic community. This development is not solely achieved through formal structures but also through relationships built on trust, collaboration, and each generation’s dedication to advancing knowledge.
Marking 50 years of activity, ANPAD today brings together more than 110 member programs and is supported by an internationally recognized academic community. With over 2,300 affiliated scholars and professionals, this network faithfully reflects what ANPAD has built: not only the quantitative expansion of graduate education in Brazil but also the maturity of a field that produces knowledge, trains researchers, and transforms organizations and societies.
Throughout its history, ANPAD has also consolidated its role as a platform for dialogue and academic participation. By supporting democracy and citizenship, the organization welcomes diverse theoretical perspectives across administration, accounting, and related fields. This openness is a key part of what makes ANPAD a credible space for debate, exchange, and collective development—a place where different perspectives meet, challenge each other, and become stronger.
It is in this spirit that the celebration of the 50th anniversary sets a clear and essential direction: to honor the past, act in the present, and build the future. Honoring the past involves recognizing the work of those who started this collective effort and all the generations that helped establish ANPAD as a national leader. Acting in the present means continuing to maintain high standards of quality in teaching and research, representing graduate education in administration in Brazil, and keeping the organization active, relevant, and responsive to the community’s needs. Building the future means further strengthening networks, expanding connections with the international community, and continuing to grow with responsibility, innovation, and inclusion.
This trajectory is guided by ANPAD’s mission: to foster high standards of quality in teaching and research and to represent graduate education in administration in Brazil. By officially launching the 50th-anniversary celebrations, ANPAD reaffirms its long-standing core: a history focused on integration and transformation. Like any collective effort, it continues to be written through each new research project, event, partnership, student beginning their academic journey, and professor or researcher dedicated to strengthening Brazil’s graduate system.
