ANPAD Proficiency Test 2026: Get ready to advance your academic path

January – March 2026 Edition | Volume 6, Issue 1

The ANPAD Proficiency Test is a proficiency exam introduced in 1987 by the Brazilian Academy of Management (ANPAD). It aims to standardize the student selection process for graduate programs in administration, accounting, and related fields throughout Brazil. The goal has always been, and continues to be, to offer a consistent, nationwide selection method, removing the need for applicants to take multiple exams in different selection processes. Today, more than 200 programs include the test in their admissions procedures.

Since 2020, the test has been taken online, which lowers travel costs and increases access for participants nationwide. Results are valid for up to two years, allowing the same score to be used in different selection processes—an important benefit for those still choosing which program or institution to pursue.

The dates for the upcoming editions have already been set:

  • April: April 26, 2026
  • June: June 28, 2026
  • September: September 13, 2026
  • November: November 8, 2026

Who can take the ANPAD Proficiency Test?

Anyone who registers and pays the application fee, or qualifies for a fee waiver under current policies, can take the test. There are no restrictions on the field of study: the exam assesses skills, abilities, and general knowledge relevant to graduate education, regardless of the participant’s undergraduate background.

What does the test assess?

The test measures participants’ performance in four areas: language skills in Portuguese and English, logical-mathematical reasoning, and analytical and argumentative ability. It emphasizes the resolution of interpretive and logical problems, without requiring specific knowledge tied to undergraduate curricula.

The score is calculated using Item Response Theory (IRT), officially adopted in September 2023 as part of the test modernization process initiated in 2022. This means that results take into account not only the number of correct answers but also the characteristics of the questions. The overall score is the simple average of the results in each of the four areas.

In March 2025, the ANPAD Proficiency Test Scale was introduced, enabling participants to interpret their proficiency levels in each assessed area.

Who uses the results?

Since its creation, the ANPAD Proficiency Test has been used as part of the selection process for graduate studies, master’s, and doctoral programs, in both academic and professional tracks, at public and private higher education institutions across Brazil.

It is important to emphasize that ANPAD does not define the number of available places or select candidates; its role is to report the performance of those who take the test. Each institution independently determines how the results are used.

To find out how to apply for graduate programs, contact the administrative office of the desired program directly. You can also check which institutions accept the ANPAD Proficiency Test.

How to prepare

The official ANPAD Proficiency Test website provides sample questions, reference literature, and the ANPAD Proficiency Test Scale for consultation.

Participants registered for a current edition have access to an exclusive online mock exam consisting of four tests, each with 10 questions, corresponding to the exam areas. Each test can be taken only once, with a maximum duration of 50 minutes – an opportunity to practice time management and become familiar with the exam format.

Before the test day, it is strongly recommended to complete the pre-Test in order to verify compatibility of the equipment with the test’s online environment, reduce the risk of technical issues, become familiar with the platform, and communicate with proctors.

ANPAD Proficiency Test Excellence Seal

Participants who achieve at least Level 4 proficiency in all areas of the scale within a single test edition are eligible for the ANPAD Proficiency Test Excellence Seal. Launched in September 2025, this distinction is available in the participant’s restricted area alongside the test certificate. The seal is designed to be shared on résumés and professional profiles.
