ANPAD 2024 Retrospective: Achievements and Impact on the Academic Community

October – December 2024 Edition | Volume 4, Issue 4

The year 2024 marked a significant milestone for the Brazilian Academy of Management (ANPAD). Our achievements strengthened academic production and fostered crucial discussions in management, accounting, and related fields. These advances reflect ANPAD’s dedication to supporting the scientific community and its pursuit of excellence.

One of the standout events was the inauguration of the new board of directors, elected at the end of 2023 and assuming office in the first half of 2024. The elected slate, Community in Focus, comprises Emílio José Montero Arruda (President-Elect), Susana Carla Farias Pereira (Scientific Director), Marco Aurélio Marques Ferreira (Treasurer and Administrative Director), Patrícia Guarnieri dos Santos (Director of Communications and Publications), and Jorge Renato de Souza Verschoore Filho (Director for Education Affairs). The new leadership prioritizes a management approach centered on fostering integration and engagement within the academic community.

A key highlight of the year was the organization of six editions of the ANPAD Proficiency Test, conducted in January, March, April, June, September, and November, to meet the growing demand in the field. This increase in the number of editions offered more opportunities for individuals aspiring to join graduate programs and advance their academic careers.

Regarding academic events, the Divisional Conferences took place from May 15 to 17 at ESPM in São Paulo. The program featured the 10th ANPAD Marketing Conference (EMA 2024), the 8th ANPAD Conference on Management and Accounting Education and Research (EnEPQ 2024), and the 32nd Symposium on Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (SITE 2024). These events facilitated the exchange of ideas and the discussion of groundbreaking research, gathering academics and researchers from diverse institutions.

EnANPAD 2024, the flagship event of the year, was held from September 16 to 18 at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Florianópolis. With over 1,500 participants, our annual meeting revolved around the theme “Reimagining the Role of Organizations in a World of Geopolitical Tensions, Social Inequality, and Environmental Crisis.” It provided a platform for profound discussions on the pressing challenges faced by organizations today.

This year’s notable innovation was the introduction of EnANPAD Professional, held on September 17, also at UFSC. This initiative allowed for the submission of technical-technological products (PTTs), bridging academic knowledge with market-driven demands. By focusing on the practical application of research, this approach strengthened the connection between science and real-world problem-solving.

During the opening ceremony of EnANPAD 2024, we officially launched ANPAD Jovem, an initiative aimed at engaging and training emerging researchers. The program encourages active participation among students from associated graduate programs, fostering their integration into ANPAD’s activities and promoting academic volunteering as a tool for personal and professional growth. The first ten volunteers received exclusive t-shirts presented by Professor Patrícia Guarnieri, the Director of Communications and Publications.

Another significant achievement of 2024 was the creation of ANPAD Meetings, a monthly webinar series addressing topics of interest to the academic community. This initiative was a collaboration between the offices of the Scientific Director and the Communication and Publications Director. It featured two main events: On August 7, the webinar “Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research” featured professors Paula Chimenti (Editor-in-Chief of RAC) and Ricardo Limongi (Editor-in-Chief of BAR). On November 21, the webinar “Development and Reporting of PTTs for Evaluation in Area 27 of CAPES” was led by Susana Carla Farias Pereira (ANPAD’s Scientific Director) and Márcio Lopes Pimenta (Deputy Coordinator of Professional Programs for Area 27 of CAPES). Both webinars were hosted online on ANPAD’s YouTube channel, further extending their reach.

The year 2024 brought remarkable productivity and innovation, reinforcing ANPAD’s role as a driving force for academic advancement. The accomplishments not only consolidated existing initiatives but also set the stage for new approaches and partnerships, further strengthening the academic and scientific community.
