Website Modernization: A Project by ANPAD Digital

October – December 2022 Edition | Volume 2, Issue 4

The world changes, and so do consumption patterns. That is why nowadays, with the increasingly digital market, mastering the virtual world is essential. Adapting to the new parameters and molds imposed by society is not enough to keep up with this technological evolution. It is necessary to go further and seek to understand how and why rapid changes make obsolete what previously dominated the market.

In the past, the expected behavior was accessing websites via LAN gaming centers or businesses offering access to computers connected to the internet. Today, all you have to do is grab your smartphone and, with one click, access what you need online.

Website standards have also changed. Now, they feature a modern layout and content concepts to meet the current needs of new and older generations.

ANPAD’s Institutional Website Modernization Project was designed, planned, and executed considering this context, innovating and delivering the best content and layout to its audience.

ANPAD’s website gained a new interface with a modern, intuitive, and responsive layout, facilitating content navigation using a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

The main updates on the ANPAD website are:

  • News: the news section was implemented to serve graduate students, professors, managers, directors, and the entire community seeking quality information in administration and related areas.
  • Videos: the homepage offers quick access to ANPAD’s YouTube channel, with videos of interest to the academic community.
  • Individual Newsletter stories: Accessing the stories you care about has never been easier! You can navigate through each story published in the Newsletter without having to access the complete PDF of the issue. In addition, it is possible to share an article directly from the website to your social media.
  • Timeline: discover the main milestones in ANPAD’s history, from its creation to the most recent achievements.

We invited the team responsible for the project to tell you about this experience:

“The proposal for a new website for ANPAD came from a diagnosis made in 2020, before the current board of directors took office in 2021. When we took over, this change became one of the main priorities of the Communication and Publications Board. However, at that time, we verified the need for a series of prior digital transformations at ANPAD for subsequent updating of the institutional website, which took place throughout 2022.”

– Professor Rafael Barreiros Porto

In August 2022, after some attempts and collecting quotes from some suppliers, we decided to develop the project with the team and a partner supplier. As a result, the Institutional Website Modernization Project was designed by the ANPAD team composed of Altamar Urbanetz (Solutions and Projects Manager), Luciano Takao Toyshima (Systems Analyst), Rafael Gatto (Governance and Technology Manager), Isabela Barros (Communication and Marketing Analyst), and Professor Rafael Barreiros Porto (Director of Communication and Publications).

“Designed using a hybrid project methodology, we use some of the Scrum ceremonies to pace the monitoring of activities and deliveries. Every week, we met to identify possible barriers, solving them more assertively and in less time, and always seeking to meet the client’s needs. We validate deliveries in 90% of cases every seven days (the time we define for each Sprint). This dynamic helped us to conduct and correctly identify challenges and translate user needs into project requirements. Team integration resulted in excellent deliveries, which made it possible to develop the entire project in 40 days.”

– Altamar Urbanetz

The first stage of planning was the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) design. This diagram organizes the project’s scope in a visual, hierarchical way and in smaller parts to facilitate the management of the main deliverables. With the WBS structured, the team built Kanban within the Monday management platform, used by the ANPAD team to monitor projects and team activities.

Delivery advances occurred every week, along with validation from the board. During the meetings, the main focus was on approving the creation of the content layout design. After validation, the IT team moved on to the development stage with implementation on the site.

“The first step in developing the site was deciding whether we would use a CMS (Content Management System) or create our own system. After analyzing the requirements and considering that one of the main ones was the site having an administrative portal for content management, we chose to use an open-source CMS. Then, we were able to focus on the particularities of ANPAD. During development, we had meetings with the project team, and given what was exposed, we offered the guidelines to prepare the layout. At this stage, we deliver through a design prototyping tool for validation by Professor Rafael Porto. After adjustments and validation, we moved on to the stage of development and availability of the page/section on the website. With this work dynamic employed, we made changes before the final stage, thus avoiding rework. The team’s interaction was also important for delivering the first version of the site in a short time.”

– Luciano Takao Toyshima

The team was responsible for transforming the design ideas to elaborate the new layout and, at the same time, for the content, which had to be planned in the best way to meet the criteria and be in line with ANPAD’s standards.

“Through shared management, the stages were discussed by the other members of the Board of Directors until the final version was launched at the end of 2022. The work was enormously successful due to the effort of everyone on the team. Congratulations!”

– Professor Rafael Barreiros Porto
