ANPADcast is the official podcast of the Brazilian Academy of Management (ANPAD). Produced by the academy through its ANPAD Jovem initiative (which brings together early-career academics) and the office of the Director of Communication and Publications, the program brings together researchers and faculty members to share science communication, discuss current affairs, finance, history, and professional experiences, reflect on academic careers, and explore other topics in Administration and related fields.
Hosted by student volunteers from ANPAD Jovem, the podcast welcomes renowned, experienced guests for conversations that foster the exchange of knowledge and experience. Early episodes have covered the use of artificial intelligence in academia, the relationship between children’s fashion and the metaverse, the arms industry’s performance in recent conflicts, and the federal government’s budget planning.

“We are trading a discussion of scientific contribution for a choice of which algorithm to use,” says professor and researcher Ricardo Limongi in the very first episode. An artificial intelligence researcher and associate professor at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Limongi appears in the premiere, which tackles a topic gaining traction in academic debate: “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research.”

“When I started the research, I quickly understood that for Generation Alpha, there is no separation between the physical and the digital; for them, it is all the real world.” In the second episode, the program explored identity in children’s fashion and the metaverse, based on the paper “From Pixels to Identity: How Skins Consumption in Metaverse Environments Constitutes Children’s Fashion Identity,” which received an award at the 49th ANPAD Annual Meeting (EnANPAD 2025). The conversation covered how the digital and physical worlds merge in constructing children’s identities, the ethical implications of this phenomenon, and the challenges facing the “phygital” industry. The guests were the paper’s authors, Lair Rocha, a professor and researcher at the State University of Londrina (UEL), and Olga Pécepe, a professor and researcher at the State University of Maringá (UEM).

“The suffering generated by these conflicts (…) creates value elsewhere.” The third episode examines the economic and financial performance of the arms industry during recent armed conflicts. It features the article “While Some Weep, Others Sell Arms: Economic and Financial Performance of Arms Industry Companies During Recent Armed Conflicts,” which won the Clóvis L. Machado-da-Silva Award in the main category at the 49th ANPAD Annual Meeting (EnANPAD 2025). The study’s lead author, Ewerton Alex Avelar, a professor, researcher, and coordinator of the Department of Accounting at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), joined the conversation.

“When we start to define things more conceptually, practice will challenge us, and vice versa.” The fourth and most recent episode examines transversality in the federal government’s budget planning, drawing on the article “Transversality in Federal Government Budget Planning (1991–2027): Meanings, Trajectories, and Instruments,” the winner of the Public Administration Division Award at EnANPAD 2025. The guest was the article’s lead author, Mariana Mazzini, a professor and researcher at the Institute for Urban and Regional Research and Planning (IPPUR) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and one of the leaders of the “Public Policy Analysis and Inequalities” theme in ANPAD’s Public Administration Division.
By broadening perspectives and bringing fields of knowledge together, these first episodes exemplify ANPADcast’s mission to encourage dialogue about science communication and academic production. By bringing researchers into accessible, informative conversations, the podcast connects scientific research with a range of audiences and puts topics that cut across Administration and related fields up for debate.
ANPADcast invites researchers, faculty members, and students to participate in this initiative and contribute to the program by suggesting topics for upcoming episodes. Members of the academic community are also welcome to join the project through ANPAD Jovem or as episode guests, sharing their research, experiences, and perspectives.
