The Doctoral Program in Administration at FGV EBAPE received national recognition with the achievement of former student Leonardo Henrique Lima de Pilla, who was awarded the 2025 CAPES Thesis Award in the fields of Public and Business Administration, Accounting, and Tourism. The award, granted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), annually recognizes the most relevant doctoral dissertations defended in Brazil in the previous year.
Supervised by Prof. Alketa Peci, former Director-President of ANPAD, the researcher developed the thesis “State-Owned Enterprises’ Performance: The Roles of Public Corporate Governance Codes and Political Ideology”, which investigates how public corporate governance codes and the political ideology of governments impact the performance of Brazilian state-owned companies. The study highlights that adopting these codes contributes to improving organizational outcomes, and that the alignment between managers and governments directly influences the performance of state-owned enterprises.
The work was praised by evaluators for its original contribution to the debate on public governance, accountability, and efficiency in the state sector, meeting criteria such as innovation, social relevance, theoretical consistency, and methodological rigor. As part of the recognition, the author will receive a scholarship for a postdoctoral internship of up to one year at a national institution, in addition to a certificate and a medal. The supervisor, Prof. Alketa Peci, will also be honored with a certificate and award.
The award ceremony will take place in December in Brasília, during which the winners of the Grand CAPES Thesis Award will also be announced, selected from among the 50 laureates in the different fields of knowledge in 2025.
Created in 2005, the CAPES Thesis Award is considered one of the most important academic distinctions in the country, recognizing research that combines scientific relevance and social impact, thereby strengthening the excellence of Brazilian postgraduate education.
