The Research Association on Monetary Innovation and Community and Complementary Currency Systems (RAMICS) has opened the call for papers for its 8th Biennial International Conference, which will take place from 8th to 12th June 2026 at the Fundação Getulio Vargas campus in Rio de Janeiro. Under the theme “Plurality of Social Currencies: solidarity economy, municipal and community currencies for inclusive and sustainable futures”, the event will bring together researchers, practitioners, community leaders, public policy representatives, and others interested in the field of monetary innovation and social currencies.
The program will be divided into two stages: from 8th to 10th June, the conference will feature keynote lectures, academic paper sessions, experience reports, and plenary debates; on 11th and 12th June, participants will take part in technical field visits to municipal and community banks that operate with social currency systems. Submissions may address topics such as digital technologies applied to social currencies, solidarity economy and local development, alternative finance, monetary governance, socio-environmental and economic impacts, as well as historical and theoretical perspectives on monetary pluralism.
Abstract submissions — for both full papers and experience reports — are open until 31st January 2026 and must contain between 500 and 800 words. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 1st March 2026. Early-bird registration runs until 2nd April, and full papers must be submitted by 24th May 2026. Contributions are accepted in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.
