Hungarian diplomat Csaba Korosi was sworn in as the new president of the General Assembly this Monday (12), during the closing of the 76th session of the Assembly.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on the eve of the opening of the 77th session, which began on Tuesday. During the mandate exchange event, UN Secretary-General António Guterres declared that the new session of the General Assembly must carry forward the spirit of cooperation and hope.
During the tenure of Abdulla Shahid, the last president of the General Assembly, member states of the Assembly analyzed 300 resolutions and made 129 decisions. The body held 15 high-level meetings. During this period, issues such as vaccines, climate, raw materials, migration, road safety, tourism, food security, and the situation in Africa were highlighted.
In addition to the closing ceremony and General Debates, the Transformative Education Summit will also take place this month in New York City, on the 16th, 17th, and 19th, the ODS Moment on the 19th, Guardianship Council Chamber on 21st, and the Global Goals Week, which takes place between the 16th and 25th.
